A picture postcard view of Aloe pillansii growing
in its Southwest African habitat.

At some point, this Aloe pillansii lost about half of its
canopy due to a broken main branch, but it recovered
and is doing just fine.
Below and right: This very old and amazing 28' tall Aloe pillansii is growing in the middle of a dry river bed, despite its reputation as a very water-sensitive species. The extensive scarring around its base is testimony to the repeated flash floods that it must have endured during its long life. The 3-branch fork about 20' up looks like the perfect spot for a colony of social weaver birds to build their "condo."
